Khajuraho Temples Complex




For the purpose of convenience, the village of Khajuraho has been divided into three directional areas where the major groups of temple complex are located. 



These are:


Western Group Temples- These groups of Khajuraho temples are entirely Hindu, and constitute some of the finest examples of Chandela art at its peak. The largest being the Kandariya Mahadev temple, followed by a granite temple - Chaunsath Yogini. The Chitragupta Temple is dedicated to the Sun God, while the Vishwanath Temple sports a three-headed image of Brahma – the Creator of the Universe. The Lakshmana Temple is superbly decorated, while the Devi Jagdambi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Other temples in the Western Group include the Varaha Temple with a nine-foot high boar-incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Matangeshwara Temple with a eight-feet high lingam, and the Brahma Temple.


Eastern Group Temples- This group of Khajuraho temples comprises of two historic Jain temples. The Adinath Temple lavishly embellished with sculpted figures, and the Parsvanath Temple which is the largest Jain temple, sculpted with charming detail. There are other shrines such as the Vamana Temple with apsaras (fairies) in sensuous poses, and the Javari Temple that has a richly-carved doorway.




Southern Group Temples- This southern group has two impressive temples, mainly belonging to the 12th century – the Chaturbhuj Temple, with a massive, carved image of Vishnu, and the Duladeo Temple, one of the last temples of the Chandela era, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Symbolizing a medieval legacy, the Khajuraho temples of India are a perfect combination of architectural and sculptural excellence, representing one of the finest examples of Indian art.


Shopping And Souvenirs Around Khajuraho Temples-Being one of the most visited temples in India, many shops have mushroomed around the temple complex which offers souvenirs at best of prices. There are number of stalls in front of these temples that present a wide array of articles which are worth buying.
Khajuraho Temple Dance Festival- This dance festival is held every year from 25th February to 2nd March, the Khajuraho Dance festival has become a platform that showcase some of the best and distinctive Indian classical dance forms that include Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Odisi, Kathakali etc. For over 25 years now, the carved stones fill with life during the month of Feb as music and dance take centers stage as in the former days.

How to Reach Khajuraho Temples
Air- The airport is 5 kms from the city centre and is well connected by domestic flights to and from Agra, Varanasi and Kathmandu.
Train- Mahoba, Satna and Jhansi are the nearest railway stations. All of these are well connected by most of the major cities of India.
Road- Khajuraho is connected by regular bus services with Mahoba, Harpalpur, Satna, Jhansi, Gwalior, Agra, Jabalpur and Bhopal. Khajuraho is 590 kms from Delhi via Gwalior and Jhansi.

ITINERARY

Day 01 :- Arrival at Delhi
Arrival at the Delhi IGI airport with affectionate greetings in Indian ritual and then our spokesperson will convene and assist you. Now we’ll progress to your pre-booked hotel. Leisure for rest of the day and relax. Stay at the hotel overnight.

Day 02 :- At Delhi
After breakfast discover the road-trip adventure to trip the very classy and elegant old Delhi including sites like red fort, marvel of red sandstone, jama masjid-the biggest mosque of India, rajghat-mahatma Gandhi’s memorial. All this would be incomplete without a rickshaw ride, so we shall pass through the authentic silvery street of chandani chowk to New Delhi exploring the rashtrapati bhavan and the India gate. During the afternoon take pleasure in sightseeing of laxmi narayan temple, lotus temple, Humayun’s tomb, jantar mantar, qutub minar etc. twilight would be fun filled alongside with the light and sound show at the Lal Quila (red fort). Arrive at the hotel and relax during the sundown followed by a ceremonial dinner.

Day 03 : Delhi- Mumbai (Bombay)Port Blair
Upon arrival our representative will assist you to your pre-booked hotel . After a brief period of rest hang out at the magical Gateway of India. Retreat to the hotel after shopping and sightseeing and retire for the night at the lodge.




Day 04 : Mumbai - Goa (Via Air)
Go Goa is the enchantment for the day. Board your flight to Goa at the scheduled time. Upon arrival check-in at the beach resort and after a little rest you may start with your sightseeing to explore to lively city of Goa. Beaches and beautiful Churches are the forte of this grand lively city. Pay a visit to lover’s paradise of Dona Paula Beach, The Basilica (a world heritage site now), St. Cathedral, St Francis of Assisi church, St Cajetan church, Ruins of St Dec ustine church, St Monica’s covenant etc. After a hectic day retreat to the resort and catch good night sleep post dinner.




Day 05 : Goa – Panaji (North Goa)Port Blair
Today is the day for Panaji (Goa’s capital). Let us explore the north side of Goa today. Cruise along the Mandovi River via boat ride and feel the difference of looking at the old villas, churches, buildings etc in reality and not in the films or in the books. Come back to the resort for dinner and sleepover.

Day 06 : Goa

Sunbath is the natural way to beautify your skin. Take a sunbath at the beach today. Today’s day is also reserved for beach safari at various beaches such as the Majorda, Anjuna, Candolim, Colva, Benaulim, Aguada, Cavelossim etc. Retire for the night at the resort.



Day 07 : GoaPort Blair
Exploring a suburban beach today we’ll enjoy the adventurous water sports today and for the night life we’ll be enjoying a sumptuous night at the night club. You may also taste Goa fenni which is a famous local liquor of Goa.

Day 08 : Goa – Mumbai-Departure
If in Mumbai how can one miss a visit to the Elephenta Island? Today we cruise to the Elephenta caves and a few pre-historic wealthy cultured temples. Later board your flight at the scheduled time and cherish your tour with happy memories.
